The Queen Mary

Pictures taken while staying for two nights on the original Queen Mary, now permanently docked at Long Beach, Ca. Pictures include both interior and exterior shots. The glass panels toward the middle of the series were located in the inner walls of the main stairway and the room with all the flowers is the main ballroom, which was set for a wedding being held on board. Also included are several shots the Radio Room and old radio equipment including some old high powered radio transmitter tubes from the days before transistors. The ship could transmit telephone and radio using "long wire" (low frequency) even from the middle the ocean while on a trans-Atlantic crossing, though it would have to turn more somewhat more north-south while transmitting due to the long wire antenna running lengthwise along the ship.
